Hula Show

Saturday's ho'olaule'a included a previously-scheduled Kahiko hula presentation during the festival program. Hula dancers from Na Pualei O Likolehua provided a 15-minute Kahiko hula program between the festival's first and second performers on Saturday which included Alexis Tolentino, Alan Akaka and The Islanders, Steve Cheney, Geronimo "Geri"Valdriz, and Greg Sardinha and Po'okela.

  • Niuli‘i Heine, leader of the halau, offered opening comments and a chant. Her mother, kumu hula Leina‘ala Kalama Heine, started the halau.
  • The halau offered the Kahiko, or ancient form of, hula.
  • A Kahiko hula dancer in traditional costume.
  • THe hula presentation drew a large crowd.
  • The demonstration attracted a large audience.
  • A view of the presentation from the center's second floor.
  • Traditional percussive instruments including drums and ipu were used in the presentation.
  • Both male and female dancers perform Kahiko hula.
